12 Questions With Calisthenics Coach & Athlete Tori Beaumont

1) Who is Tori Beaumont? (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourself (hobbies, etc)

Im based in the U.K. and currently compete, coach & represent female Bodyweight Calisthenics & StreetWorkout. My core strengths/specialist area from a training perspective are Hand balance, Strength & Static holds (for example Human Flags, scorpion Handstands and the One arm elbow lever)

2) How many years have you been training? (Including how you got started, etc)

I have been training for a number of years and it might surprise you that I was actually an air hostess when I got into Calisthenics and had never done any training before taking it up. From a personal perspective I was going through a really difficult time in my life (as we all do at some point) & I started to go to the gym just doing cardio to clear my mind, that’s when I discovered two guys training Human Flags, we got chatting, and the rest they say is history. When first discovering Calisthenics I was in absolute awe of how the athletes moved & controlled their bodies, it was so effortless.

3) Whats been the most challenging/hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)

At the beginning I couldn’t do anything, not even a pull up! But I’m a very single minded and just threw myself into getting strong, immersing myself amongst and around a solid group of people I could learn from.

4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like? (With any particular protocols you rate).

My weekly training consists of mobility & flexibility training. Strength based weighted reps (push ups: pull ups & dips). A lot of extensive Core & Conditioning, Gymnastics, Strength training, Cardio & of course training the movements I am working as my specialty areas. Im currently focusing on Planche, One arm handstand & improving my Flips and tumbling. Diet wise, I am quite keen on fasted training as I’ve always found that works well for me, then keeping my diet little and often.

5) What new knowledge have you learned over this past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition? (And How has it changed your focus for the future).

I’ve learnt to pick myself up again and again and again after Set backs & rejections. be resilient, and remaining undeterred by what is going on around me. To focus on myself and where I am at.  It is journey and It is easy to end up investing unnecessary energy on comparing yourself to others. Remaining Humble, & working hard, and importantly putting in the hours.

I have learnt to be more time effective with my training. And that less is sometimes more. I had done my utmost to surround myself with as many different and knowledgeable individuals as I can to learn and absorb from.

I have learnt that what may work for someone else may not necessarily work for me, and to stay open minded and flexible in my approach.

6) Whats your favourite cheat/Treat meal?

Favorite cheat is sushi and Pizza!!

7) Whats one supplement that you could not live without?

I don’t actually take supplements I take natural remedies like Propolis but nothing else.

8) If you had to start your Journey from scratch with both your health & physique what would you do differently and why?

I think that I would be a lot more mindful and strict when building my foundations rather than just hammering reps out and not really caring about the importance of building “solid foundations” to work from as this will ultimately serve you much better in the long run.

9) Who do you look upto in the fitness industry and why?

I look upto people like Frank Medrano, and Individuals who were paving the way when I started Calisthenics. I look up to Strong individuals who aren’t scared to be different & who are owning who they are and what they represent/stand for.

10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?

My advice  is to just start Make yourself move and commit to a class or a training session with someone. The hardest part is getting started! following people who inspire you is also very helpful, even watching YouTube can help with ideas and things you may want to achieve. I would find videos to watch and workouts to try all the time when getting started. You must remember we all have to start somewhere and we were all a beginner at some point.

11) What new goals do you have on the horizon?

I plan to continue building my strength both physically and mentally, and also (Possibly) compete again. I’m planning to Finally launch my own range of training shirts for women and am continuing to work alongside @gravity.fitness who have some really exciting things coming up (so make sure you give them a follow. Aside from this I plan to continue building my brand). “Bodyweight By Beau”. I have a few exciting things in the pipeline so keep a look out via my social media.
