1) Who is Andrea Montalvo? (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourself (hobbies, etc)
Andrea Montalvo - formerly known as Andrea Ager or "AGERBOMB"
From Denver, CO --> live in NYC - CrossFit coach and athlete. Lead AgerBomb Seminars (100 events worldwide!) Started the business 5 years ago, teaching athlete seminars at affiliates. Love training, getting stronger, running around Manhattan, swimming, reading spiritual books and hanging out with my husband!
2) How many years have you been training?
8 years in CrossFit, but have been lifting weights for 16 years! Started when I was 14 years old.
3) Whats been the most challenging/hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)
The hardest part is that with CrossFit, it seems like the closer you get to reaching your goals, the closer you are to that point of getting injured or overtraining. I had a devastating lower back injury that I had to rehab for over two years, it was hard to be positive but in the long run it taught me a lot about my own movement patterns. It made me really hungry to get back into it for sure! Now in my training I have more of a passion for warm-up, recovery, and what big risk is worth it, depending on how I'm feeling.
4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like?
Come in, do accessory work, some strict gymnastics and olympic lifting. Then take the 5:30 CrossFit class at my home gym with my husband and go hard in the workout with my community!
5) What new knowledge have you learned over this past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition?
CrossFit is not who I am, it's what I like to do. Working on and trying to develop my character and wisdom as a woman has been something I've truly loved to do on the side of developing the strength of my body as an athlete. Admitting when I'm wrong, taking responsibility, sacrificing for others. Learning to hold my tongue and listen, and loving people when they're loveable AND when they're unlovable - and following Jesus Christ as closely as I can as he shoes me new things everyday!
6) Whats your favourite cheat/Treat meal?
Cheese burgers from Sweet Afton Burgers here in Queens, NY! That or Dough in Manhattan, that place has an hour long line but is so worth it.
7) Whats one supplement that you could not live without?
Flyte Supplement's cinnamon protein
8) If you had to start your Journey from scratch with your health & physique what would you do differently and why?
I would hammered the pushing and pulling in gymnastics very early and more focused on my squat and deadlift. Those to this day are still some of the things I'm working on constantly, but when i first started all I cared about was the snatch and the clean and jerk! Those are the most fun to do anyways :D
9) Who do you look upto in the fitness industry and why?
Annie Thorisdottir and Julie Foucher! Those two remain humble, thoughtful and level-headed on competition floors swarming with fear. I look up to them because of the way they act toward others and the way they are relentless in training!
10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?
Take the time to get strong!
Dial in your nutrition and cut out the crap.... sugar, bread, and pasta right away. You don't need it!
Listen to your coaches, they really do know best
Get your Level 1, it's an incredible investment of your time
Get your family into CrossFit, you'll be glad you did. Let's make health popular!
11) What new goals do you have on the horizon?
I want to make it back as an Individual to Regionals in 2019!
12) Where can people find you? (website, social media accounts)
@ager_bomb - Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.
Come to an AgerBomb Seminar if you get a chance!!! If you are a gym owner or a manager at a gym that would like to provide an event for your community full of INSPIRATION, SNATCHES, MUSCLE-UPS, HSPU, FUN and SELFIES, send me an email! Let's get to planning. --- agerbombseminars@gmail.com
