12 Questions With Crossfit Athlete/Personal Trainer & Physiotherapist Eik Gylfadóttir

1) Who is Eik Gylfadóttir ? (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourself (hobbies, etc)

Im a Dottir - from Reykjavik, Iceland, 29 years old. I love nature, being out side and training a lot. I have a very time consuming hobby called Crossfit witch I also adore. I have lived for the majority of my grownup life in Denmark where i studied. Currently I work as a physiotherapist and a personal trainer in the Middle East.

2) How many years have you been training?

I have been training different sports since i was a kid, last 5-6 years mostly Crossfit. Before I found Crossfit I did long distance running, body building, Yoga, power lifting and played basked ball.

3) Whats been the most challenging/hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)

It has been challenging balancing a lifestyle around almost full-time training. When I started competing I had a full-time job and part time study on the side of competitive crossfit. That was too much, since then I have made som carrier choices to make it easier to me to follow this passion to be one of the best Crossfitters in the world.

4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like?

I follow the training plan, that provides me with a structure for my training, 2 days on/ 1 active recovery day / 3 days on / 1 rest day. On training days i do 2 sessions a day. + swimming. I try to observe my macro nutrition and over all calorie intake, mostly to make sure Im not under eating.

5) What new knowledge have you learned over this past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition?

Always learning something new regarding training and nutrition, my newest discovery is how much protein you need to eat to gain muscle. I am also always surprised with how much the time spent practicing technical details pays back - and how fast it pays back. In stead of tiering your self on lifting heavy to get strong, lift light and well - that will give you much faster results.

6) Whats your favourite cheat/Treat meal?

I love Ice-cream - preferably Bragdarefur (icelandic specialty like mc flurry with pick ́n ́mix candy infused) if im abroad i will indulge with Ben and Jerry’s

7) one supplement that you could not live without?

Liquid Carbs & Protein Powder (I would be tiny ́er and very skinny with out getting floating energy)

8) If you had to start out from scratch with your physique what would you do differently and why?

I wouldn’t really change anything about my physique its just a side effect of hard work and being competitive at this level but not a goal in it self.

9) Who do you look upto in the fitness industry and why?

I look up to all of the Dóttirs, what a great bunch of roll models to have this close to you - to have known them through the years and watched them achieve great things.

10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?

Get some quality coaching and spend more time on building the basics and good foundation. Both in the simple movement but especially in Olympic lifting and Gymnastics. To many people are in a rush of getting there first muscle up / all the kg on there snatch instead of doing it well and mastering the basics first.

11) What new goals are on the horizon?

This season i want to rock the Meridian Regionals and compete at my first Games as an Individual.

12) Where can people find you? (website, social media accounts)

You can follow my travelblog / Crossfit inspired IG account my handle is @ eikgylfadottir be aware I love nature and outdoors so that infuses the fitness on my account ;)
