1) Who is Serena Abweh? (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourself (hobbies, etc)
My name is Serena and I’m from a small town in New Mexico. I am a power ”builder” I guess you can say cause I like to do a mixture I bodybuilding and powerlifting! I love drawing, cooking and my pup.
2) How many years have you been training?
About 3 years
3) Whats been the most challenging/hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)
When I first got into working out, I did it for all the wrong reasons and along the way I’ve delveloped an eating dirsorder. I dropped down to 60 pounds and was on my death bed I was sent to treatment twice, I was in a constant battle of wanting to get better and relapse. In 2015 I was fed up with my eating disorder and refused to go down that abusive cycle again.
The gym begin to turn into a place where I can push my self and get stronger rather than A place to torture it. My sisters inspired me to start powerlifting in 2016 and now I love it and the journey of getting stronger and healthier.
4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like?
I do one of the three main lifts in the beginning of my workout and then move onto accessories. My sister Samyra is coaching me for my main lifts.
5) What new knowledge have you learned over this past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition?
I learned that there is no “good” food or “bad” food. They all go through the body the same way. It’s all about finding what works best for you and your body. I learned that you can’t copy someone else’s diet and expect to get the same results or look like them.
6) Whats your favourite cheat/Treat meal?
Well my fave food is poki I could eat it 24/8 :)
7) Whats one supplement that you could not live without?
Creatine, that’s prob the only thing I need lol
8) If you had to start your Journey from scratch with your health & physique what would you do differently and why?
I wouldn’t do anything different because through my experience and story, I’m able to reach people who may be going through the same thing I once did and have someone there to give them a boost of encouragement. Hopefully help them get out of their own self destructive patterns.
9) Who do you look upto in the fitness industry and why?
I look up to my sisters @Swolessi and @mini_myraa because they helped me a lot with my own journey and is amazing to have such kind hearted bad ass sisters.
10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?
ENJOY WHAT YOU DO!!!!!
11) What new goals do you have on the horizon?
To compete in my first powerlifting meet this summer!
12) Where can people find you? (website, social media accounts)
