1) Who is Sheli McCoy? (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourself (hobbies, etc)
I'm a Crossfit athlete (don't hate on me) , I'm from Dundee Scotland and I own a Sports performance and rehabilitation business called Complete Phyzique. I have an education in sports performance , rehabilitation and a masters in kinetics and biomechanics of human movement. I am a Crossfit Coach and a Personal Trainer, a British weightlifting coach and Head coach of "Complete Compete" a Crossfit competitors athlete program I founded. I'm a busy girl.
2) How many years have you been training?
I used to be rather over weight, its the reason I began to train, I think I have been in Crossfit for about 3 years now ? Iv trained seriously with a real aim for perhaps 2 years ... it's hard to remember really, I have blanked the past out a bit (haha)
3) Whats been the hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)
The start of this fitness career was hard, I never set out to become a professional, I started just to make myself feel less unhappy. Overcoming my own mind was a serious task and I feel it's made me stronger in every aspect of life.
I also Seriously injures my knee October 2016 when I hit a massively heavy lift , accidents happen, I blew out my entire cartilage dislocating my patella and it's taken me until today July 24th to hit the weight again and successfully (Hooray) it was a long, testing , trying road to recovery and I speak about it in depth in my podcasts with Ben coomber if anyone is interested in learning how I overcame being told I was done with sport.
4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like?
I train 5 days a week , 2-3 times a day on a Crossfit programme written by a coach, Mike Catris , it's called Moofit programming and it's really brought me and my skills on over the last 5 / 6 months, 1 day I will have active recovery which may be a swim or walk or light run and 1 day is complete Rest.
I stick to macros written by my nutritionist Carl Greenslade, every day I aim for the same totals , I recently hosted a live Q+A on my Fb page if anyone is interested in the depths of my nutrition pop on my page and look in my videos and have a listen.
5) What have you learned over the past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition?
My Nutrition has to be perfect for my body to give me what I demand from it - the best of it's ability. Lifestyle has to be conducive with my goals, you cannot have a jumping social life and late nights and regular days off if you want to be the best. Recovery is the key to growth.
6) Whats your favourite Cheat/Treat meal?
I'm not a fan of cheat meals 😂joke ->
Donuts. Big, dirty, heart destroying , fudgey, sticky , to big for my mouth DONUTS.
7) one supplement that you could not live without?
Awesome supplements Daily dose - it's like your all in one and saves a hell of a lot of space in my cupboard 😂 I have to say protein powder too because without it there's no chance I would hit my macros , with my schedule I require fast snacks !!
8) If you had to start out from scratch with your physique what would you do differently and why?
More mobility. Care less about what other thought about my body and work more on my weaknesses early in the game rather than the sexy movements. It catches up with you and your forced to re-lay the foundations you should have set way back in the beginning.
9) Who do you look upto in the fitness industry and why?
There are many people I admire, some professional athletes, some coaches, some podcasters, some youtubers ... I have a lot of time for those who care enough to tell the truth, reach out to those who need help and offer education because they want to help not because they want to cash in.
10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?
Make a daily-weekly-monthly-yearly plan and set achievable goals. Don't rush it, respect the process and take care of your body with rest , recovery and fuel. The foundations of a great athlete are laid slowly and meticulously.
11) What new goals are on the horizon? (new goals, aims, etc)
I'm just back from an international comp in Paris, next I'm competing in the Scottish championships , later in the year I'll be attempting to qualify for the European championships and also over in Tenerife competing. These are all milestones along the way to the main aim of the Crossfit Open 2018 where I will be setting my eyes on a regional finish along side some of the best athletes around. Aim high ☺
12) Where can people find you? (website, social media accounts)
I'm most active on Instagram @Cfsheli
I post educational writings and blogs on my business FB page @Complete Phyzique , everyone is also welcome to follow me on my FB sheli mccoy.
