12 Questions With CrossFit Athlete/Coach Mike Pantz


1) Who is Michael Pantaleon? (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourself (hobbies, etc) 

Born in the Philippines and Moved to the UK when I was about 11 and moved in the UAE when I was 24 and been Coaching at CrossFit Sand Warriors since then.

2) How many years have you been training?

Been training for about 10 years, Started doing the usual Gym stuff since I was 18 as that when I got my driving licence and thought I can drive to the gym now ha.

3) Whats been the most challenging/hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)

Dubai Fitness Championship 2015 when there was a swim event, I was poor swimmer, the workout was 200m Swim for time, and I remember being time capped and never felt so tired in my life. The fight to stay alive in that pool.

4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like?

I like to do some Cardio/Machine based exercise first thing in the morning to kinda wake the body up and get out of breath a little, then I’ll have some food and back again for the ‘CrossFit’ session around midday. Diet is kinda on the High Fat/ Low Carb at the moment, I tend to get bloated when I have some kind of carbs.. but I’m now working with a Nutrition Coach to find the right balance to optimise performance as well as keeping lean.

5) What new knowledge have you learned over this past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition? 

This isn’t new but certainly reminded again the Importance of intensity of the training, I’ve been focusing a lot more on trying to build a big ‘Engine’ but I lacked of the Power of it.

6) Whats your favourite cheat/Treat meal?

I love all Kinds of food ha! But I LOVE sushi for sure.  

7) Whats one supplement that you could not live without?

BCAA’s! 

8) If you had to start your Journey from scratch with your health & physique what would you do differently and why?

I would start my Fitness in much younger age, and should have learnt to Swim when I was a kid.

9) Who do you look upto in the fitness industry and why?

Sara Sigmundsdottir. No prior fitness background and now one of the fittest in the world.

10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?

Stick to it, Hustle. Find a mentor or a coach that will lead you the way specially when things get tough.

11) What new goals do you have on the horizon?

Regionals 2019
