12 Questions with CrossFit Athlete Olivia Scott

1) Who is Olivia Scott? (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourself (hobbies, etc)

Madison, AL. I am a Mechanical Design Engineering manager for solid rocket motor design at Aerojet Rocketdyne. Strength Specialist for the FGL Orlando Aces. Train at CrossFit Impulse (@crossfitimpulse) in Madison, AL. Placed 4th worldwide in the Rogue Pump & Row Challenge, heavy division.

2) How many years have you been training? (Including how you got started, etc)

I've been training for almost 9 years. Fun Fact: I got my chance at playing in the FGL after Taylar Stallings found me on the Rogue "Pump & Row" challenge leaderboard. I've also competed in Weightlifting, Powerlifting and CrossFit.

3) Whats been the most challenging/hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)

A few years ago, I was competing heavily in USA Weightlifting, with the goal of qualifying for nationals. I knew I had the total in me, but kept missing it by a few kilos or bombing out at meets in attempts to qualify. It was tough on me emotionally, and I realized I was no longer having fun in my training. So I shifted focus to just training with the goal of getting stronger, having fun, and gaining muscle. That's when the opportunities began to present themselves.

4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like? (With any particular protocols you rate).

I am working with LVLCE Coaching (@lvlcecoaching), who creates a customized training plan for me specific to my FGL goals. I also really enjoy the community aspect of CrossFit classes, and jump in on those often, with adjustments for how my training week is laid out. I have also pulled heavily from Hybrid Performance Method (@hybridperformancemethod) for weightlifting specific training blocks in the past. I don't track macros, but I do try to get some sort of vegetable in with every meal. I also start each day with 4 scrambled eggs. One of my sponsors, Box Eats (@box_eats) offers nutritious chef inspired meals, which accounts for most of my diet.

5) What new knowledge have you learned over this past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition? (And How has it changed your focus for the future)

My career is very demanding of my time and mental energy. Having a defined plan when walking into the gym is greatly beneficial to keeping training sessions productive and time effective. I learned that it's not just about the time you spend in the gym, but the quality of your training. Joining the Orlando Aces has given new purpose to my training. For nutrition, I've learned that consistency is more important than extreme restrictions -- enjoy everything in moderation.

6) Whats your favourite cheat/Treat meal?

Ice cream (cookies and cream or chocolate) on a good, old fashioned waffle cone.

7) Whats one supplement that you could not live without?

BCAAs or Metabolic Nutrition Glycoload. One of my sponsors, Absolute Nutrition (@absnutrition), created a canned drink called Amino Fizz which uses Metabolic Nutrition's Tri-Pep BCAAs, and is my go-to for intraworkout or post training recovery.

8) If you had to start your Journey from scratch with both your health & physique what would you do differently and why?

Start earlier! And I would get into gymnastics at a young age, instead of starting at 23 lol.

9) Who do you look upto in the fitness industry and why?

The Orlando Aces owner and coach, Taylar Stallings. She has a positive impact on everything she is a part of, and just dominates every sport she competes in. I was so nervous the first time we FaceTimed to talk about joining the Aces! When she DM'd me to tell me about FGL, I thought it was a fake account, and left her on read for a few days! I'm so glad Taylar snuck in my DMs. Also Stefi Cohen - she is equal parts feminine, strong and intelligent.

10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?

Just keep showing up. Even on days when your training doesn't go as planned, you're moving in the right direction. Some days it's just about moving the dirt.

11) What new goals do you have on the horizon?

During this off season, my coaches and I are working to build more strength and are training sport (FGL) specific movements with the goal of moving into some utility player races next season -- get jacked, and most importantly stay healthy!

12) Where can people find you? (website, social media accounts)
