12 Questions with FL Grid League Athlete and Head Coach Nick

1) Who is Nick Habich (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourself? (hobbies, etc)

I’m an army infantry veteran, Certified Athletic Trainer, and I own multiple gyms in South West Florida called Shark Bite Fitness and Nutrition. I’m the Head Coach and a bodyweight specialist on the @swflsharks in the @flgridleague. I’ve got two dogs, two tortoises. I’m also a huge nerd.

2) How many years have you been training? (Including how you got started, etc)

I’ve been doing crossfit-style training for about 10 years now. I started while I was in the army, back when EVERYONE made fun of crossfit. Hah!

3) Whats been the most challenging/hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them? (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)

My biggest challenge with fitness has been that I am not naturally athletic at all. Everything I do takes a LOT of work, but that makes it a lot more fun when I do succeed.

4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like? (With any particular protocols you rate).

I work out 5 or 6 days per week. I generally do the standard functional-fitness classes we offer, and at least once per week I do a gymnastics-biased training session to keep my GRID skills up to date. I use the AMAZING Rebuilt Meals for my meal preparation, because I’m VERY busy, and do not want to spend my limited time cooking healthy meals!

5) What new knowledge have you learned over this past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition? (And How has it changed your focus for the future

Over this last year, my business has become much more virtual. I work from home more than I ever have in the past, and I have staff who live all over South West Florida. Making sure I get my physical fitness in, more than just the classes I do per day, has become a major priority.

6) Whats your favourite cheat/Treat meal?

Pizza. Gimme ALL the pizza!

7) Whats one supplement that you could not live without?

I love me some powdered greens. I like the Berries and Greens from Driven Nutrition. I also couldn’t live without caffeine, so Uptime is the best drink on earth.

8) If you had to start your Journey from scratch with both your health & physique what would you do differently and why?

I would put some money into finding a quality coach, and having them train me. I spent far too much time when I was younger farting around in cheaper gyms with lower quality coaches, not learning and not getting better. I got FAR better once I took that seriously, I wish I hadn’t waited until my 30s to do so!

9) Who do you look upto in the fitness industry and why?

The other players on my team, the SWFL Sharks. Amazing athletes like Francisco Gomez, Hannah Hardy, Jhoan Falcon. They’re unreal.

10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?

The best time to start was last year. The NEXT best time to start is now. Go find something, don’t worry if it’s not the best AT FIRST, just get started and find out what you like.

11) What new goals do you have on the horizon?

I’m opening some more gyms in South West Florida, and HOPEFULLY helping the SWFL Sharks to the Florida Grid League championship!

12) Where can people find you? (website, social media accounts)

You can find me on FB/IG at @nickhabich, my gyms at @sharkbitecapecoral and @sharkbitefortmyers, the Sharks at @swflsharks, and our athlete-recovery business at @athleticrecoveryservices
