12 Questions with Powerlifter Vilma Olsson

1) Who is Vilma Olsson? (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourself (hobbies, etc)

I come form Sweden and have always lived here. On the days I study in senior high school I train during the nights at powerlifting. I have always been training a lot since I was little. The sports I used to do before Powerlifting are Cheerleading and American football. But none of that is something I do today. As a person am I very active and don’t like to stand or sit for a long time. I am always on the run to training or something else.

2) How many years have you been training?

I have been training since I was very young and have taken part in many sports, but lately I have only been powerlifting. I have been training with powerlifting for about one and a half years..

3) Whats been the most challenging/hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)

The hardest parts I have to experience is injuries. I used to play American football and practise powerlifting on the side. Playing American football has worn my knees and last year (2017) I got a meniscus injury. The road back was not that difficult but sadly during my rehab I broke my wrist. Another injury I had was when a helmet broke my fibula (leg). So two times in the same year has been a really hard challenge for me. The injuries tested me not only physically but also mentally. It’s true that I’ve learned how to do rehab properly and get back into training as fast as possible but after all the injuries I decided to quit football and concentrate on Powerlifting.

4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like?

I train bench 3 times and squats/deadlifts 2 times a week. My diet isn’t that special. I eat whatever I want. But often I crave the health foods so by default I usually eat food that is good for my training. When I graduate the situation with food will change for the better because right now I eat the food that’s made by the school.

5) What new knowledge have you learned over this past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition?

I´ve learned a lot about different training methods and how they work on me. I´ve also learned about how you can train strength in different methods. One example is speed.

6) Whats your favourite cheat/Treat meal?

My favourite cheat meal is Thaifood or something with mango.

7) Whats one supplement that you could not live without?

Caffeine.

8) If you had to start your Journey from scratch with your health & physique what would you do differently and why?

I would plan my training from the beginning. Like strength and volume progression. I would also try to train less then I have done in the past. The reason for this is that the amount of training I have done has been hard on the body.

9) Who do you look upto in the fitness industry and why?

Ray Williams: Because of his incredible squat and focus.

Jen Thompson: Because she is a mother and still kicks ass.

Dana linn Bailey: Because of her beautiful body and mind-set. She also talked a lot about body complexes and that have helped me a lot.

10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?

Have a plan. Plan your progress, and don’t stress. The long time goal is the most important one.

11)What new goals do you have on the horizon?

My goal is the get a 500 kg total this year or more.

12) Where can people find you? (website, social media accounts)
