12 Questions with CrossFit Athlete (and CEO/founder of Macrostax) Lindsey Love Jenks

1) Who is Lindsey Love Jenks? (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourself (hobbies, etc)

I am the founder of Macrostax and dedicate most of my life to creating the worlds best macro app so I can help people dial in their nutrition and change lives the way mine was changed when I found counting macros. I have a B.S. in Exercise Science from UF, previously owned 2 CrossFit gyms in Orlando, now live in Boulder, CO and love to hike with my 2 aussie pups. I went to Regionals as an individual 3 times and have been an athlete my whole life. Fitness is SO important to me. Entrepreneurship is something I am extremely passionate about as well and even in my free time I am reading how to be a better manager, business owner, wife and person somewhere in the outdoors.

2) How many years have you been training?

My wholeeee life! I started CrossFit in 2007 when there weren't even gyms yet and we just all followed the main site in a "globo gym" haha. Before that I was the Strength Coach for the UF cheerleaders so I would work out with them regularly and started playing pretty much every sport at age 6 (soccer, basketball, cross country & track). Before age 6 is when I did ballet, gymnastics & jazz. The list goes on...

3) Whats been the most challenging/hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)

I have two herniated discs in my back that have set me back more than I like to admit. Competing in CrossFit was my life and in some ways my identity for a very long time. Unfortunately, statics show that this injury will only get worse over time but I am confident with the right training, I can come back stronger. Not to say I will have the same exact goals knowing the damage I have done but I certainly can be the best version of myself. It takes A LOT of patience (and tears). Anything is possible as long as you make wise decisions and know your limits.

4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like?

I workout about 5 days a week including traditional Crossfit and weightlifting. I also go hiking 1-3 times a week and snowboard in the winters. My diet is ON POINT haha. I own a nutrition company so I have high expectations for myself. I weigh and measure my food to ensure I am fueling properly and hitting my macro targets. I eat around 200g carbs, 135g protein and 50g fat on a daily basis. It helps me PR everything and stay lean so why not?!

5) What new knowledge have you learned over this past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition?

Nutrition is MORE than half the battle. So many people wonder why they want to nap, can't perform well, carry unwanted body fat when all they need to do is spend some time dialing in their nutrition. I have seen over 15,000 people get results counting macros and it changed my life and think everyone should try it! As far as fitness goes, recovery is just as important as the time spent in the gym. If you don't let your body recover, your potential can be hindered.

6) Whats your favourite cheat/Treat meal? I can only choose one?!

I would say I love Thai Red Curry, but I equally love me some wine and sushi.

7) Whats one supplement that you could not live without?

ZMA or fish oil. They are magic.

8) If you had to start your Journey from scratch with your health & physique what would you do differently and why?

I would love to say "nothing" but the reality is, my back injury stemmed from doing too much volume with either incorrect form or I just didn't let my body recover enough to keep up. That is how I got injured so ideally if I could go back or give advice to someone newer into competition, is to listen to their body and REST!!!!

9) Who do you look upto in the fitness industry and why?

Rich Fronning. I love that he puts faith first, stays humble and also finds a way to win (or just be a complete animal) while balancing a family.

10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?

Listen to your coaches, swallow your pride, stay humble and listen to your body. Rest more, eat clean and sleep!! You can't speed up your progress without doing a number of these things.

11) What new goals do you have on the horizon?

I would like to snatch 200#, have 1 million Macrostax subscribers and remain injury free.

12) Where can people find you? (website, social media accounts)
