12 Questions with CrossFit Athlete Tennil Reed-Beuerlein

1) Who is Tennil Reed-Beuerlein? (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourself (hobbies, etc)

I’m from Kingman, Az. I grew up playing all kinds of sports (basketball, soccer, gymnastics, swimming, cross country, volleyball, Softball, track, rugby.) I have my doctorate in physical therapy. I love spending time with my family. I’m newly married to my husband Tyler Beuerlein. I have a awesome step daughter Tyah Beuerlein who I just adore and I am excited to have more kids someday soon.

I love fitness and nutrition. Right now I coach my personal clients 1 on 1 for competition or just to get physically fit for a heathier life. I also program the workouts for Lean & Limitless through Wodstar. But most of my time is spent at OPEX training myself to compete in Crossfit.

2) How many years have you been training?

5 and a half years

3) Whats been the most challenging/hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)

I have had lots of small injuries (wrist pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, low back pain) that I had to train around, luckily I have a PT background and My OPEX coach who knows how to keep me training hard even though I have an injury. I feel pretty blessed because I’ve been able to compete every season since I started.

4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like?

I train twice a day 5 days a week with 2 recovery days. I eat to feel healthy. My coach gives me macros that I follow. He gives them to my food provider (natures purpose) and then I get my meals each week. Makes food very simple.

5) What new knowledge have you learned over this past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition?

I’ve learned that it’s the small things that make a difference. All the little extra stuff my coach has me do all adds up. All your energy has to be focused in one direction.

6) Whats your favourite cheat/Treat meal?

Dark Chocolate sea salt covered cashews from Whole Foods! Yum!

7) Whats one supplement that you could not live without?

I don’t really feel like any supplements are life changing. But I do take glutamine, a daily vitamin, and a probiotic each day.

8) If you had to start your Journey from scratch with your health & physique what would you do differently and why?

I would of went straight to OPEX and met my coach right away. Before OPEX my training was very scattered, diet was all over the place. I believed I could eat very little carbs, stay up late and then be ready for a huge workout the next day. Yikes! Now my training is so thought out, nutrition on point, and lifestyle changes are focused to one goal.

9) Who do you look upto in the fitness industry and why?

I look up to anyone pushing to be the best version of them self. Doesn’t have to be just in fitness, but someone who is able to excel in a well ballenced life amazes me.

10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?

Define your goals well, put a plan in place to accomplish those. Seeing progress towards something is a huge motivator. Motivation is key when you have those tough days. Hold yourself responsible. If you say your going to do something, do it! Putting that pressure on yourself and feeling uncomfortable means you are growing.

11) What new goals do you have on the horizon?

I wanty body to feel healthy, pain free. I want to improve my abilities from last year. I want to stand on the Crossfit Games podium in 2018.

12) Where can people find you? (website, social media accounts)
