1) Who is Amber Abweh? (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourself (hobbies, etc)
I’m a 56kg powerlifters kd a full time student and full time dog mother. I love to lift (obviously) but I also love to draw, sing (terribly, of course, I don’t have musical talent), joke around, look at memes and drink the occasional glass of whiskey. Also I help run a gym in San Diego called Convoy Strength.
2) How many years have you been training?
I’ve been training for over 4 years now.
3) Whats been the hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)
When I first started, it was injuries that set me back. I had power back injuries and a knee injury. Now it’s life and all it’s stressers, and trying to become an adult (trying.)
4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like?
Well I’m in off season right now, so their is no set workout or diet I follow. I just go in and lift what feels good that day and eat what I feel pike (or what my wallet can afford to buy me)
5) What new knowledge have you learned over the past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition?
I learned a lot about proper bracing/core engagement and rooting in the squat from Chris Duffin and his team at Kabuki Strength. I also learned about leverages in the bench with Mark Bell. But I’m always constantly learning. People always have something new to bring to the table.
6) Whats your favourite cheat/Treat meal?
Every meal I eat. But I would say beer.
7) one supplement that you could not live without?
I don’t take supplements lol. Soooo uhh water??
8) If you had to start out from scratch with your physique what would you do differently and why?
I would have told myself to stop dieting so much when I first started lifting.
9) Who do you look upto in the fitness industry and why?
I look up to everyone who trains at my gym. Because they enjoy it and don’t lift for the like or views.
10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?
Don’t be afraid of what people think/say about you. Do what makes you happy.
11) What new goals are on the horizon? (new goals, aims, etc)
I hope to do a USAPL meet soon. And to keep growing the Strength community around my gym.
12) Where can people find you? (website, social media accounts)
CONVOY STRENGTH! Come train with me here. But if you can’t, you can train with me virtually on my YouTube under Amber Abweh, or on IG and Twitter @swoleesi
