1) Who are the Lean Machines? (where are you from, what do you do, a bit about yourselves (hobbies, etc)
We're John Chapman & Leon Bustin, best friends, personal trainers, nutrition coaches and happy people. Together we're known as The Lean Machines which we original started on YouTube and is the name of our channel. We give advise and facts on everything from nutrition to training to happiness!
2) How many years have you both been training?
In the gym since we were teenagers albeit we spent the early years not really knowing what we were doing haha.
3) Whats been the hardest part of your journey so far? and how have you overcome them (set backs, rejections, injuries, basically anything difficult that you have had to overcome)
The hardest parts... I guess the work to life balance was something we had to work on as social media never sleeps there's always something to do and some is awake to interact.
Personally I (John) smashed my shoulder up snowboarding this year so it took me 15 weeks get back which was super fast and I put that down to be positive about my injury. The videos we created around my recovery seemed to really help our viewers as we got a LOT of messages which is awesome.
4) What does your typical workout/diet routine look like?
Workout wise at the moment we're really enjoying Crossfit especially the gymnastics and olympic lifting. Diet wise we're pretty relaxed, so many people put pressure on a diet. We try to get the majority of our food from good sources and then we have foods that aren't typically healthy here and there. This approach stops us craving treats but also stops you stressing about it, I don't want to eat ice cream and feel guilty while eating it, that's not healthy! We train hard and eat smart.
5) What have you learned over the past year regarding training, lifestyle and nutrition?
That people love to over complicate things and sell you the next best thing, EVERYTHING you do fitness and nutrition wise should be about YOU! How you feel, what you like and what's sustainable.
6) Whats your favourite Cheat/Treat meal?
Again we don't really class anything as a cheat meal as then you're kind of giving it power, it's just something we enjoy sparingly. For me though it's Indian food/crisps and for Leon it's Chocolate
7) One supplement that you both could not live without?
None unless you deficient in something then it's often not needed, having said that we use daily dose from @awesomesupps which has fish oils, Vitamin D3 two things in particular that most will benefit from.
8) If you had to start out from scratch with your physiques what would you do differently and why?
Nothing you're a product of your environment we train for fun and to perform better, when we were younger & more insecure i'd of said i'd like bigger arms and calfs but those days have passed we don't value ourselves any more or less on that stuff.
If I had to say something i'd would go back and fix imbalances that caused me issues and stopped me training 100% for sometime.
9) Who do you both look upto in the fitness industry and why?
I wouldn't say we look up to anyone, we see want certain people do in their fields and appreciate. For example I think Jamie Alderton has done great things for the physique and bodybuilding sector, he's not afraid to have fun and show balance. He loves a drink but when it's game time he kicks it into gear and that shows a healthy life balance, our bodies are meant to fluctuate you can't live life at 5% body fat without sacrifices.
10) If you had to give one bit of advice to people starting out what would that be?
Have fun! Pick a style of training you enjoy there's so many different ways to get fit out there.
11) What new goals are on the horizon? (new goals, aims, etc)
We have a few most of which are style in planning or not ready to be revealed but we are bringing out some training kit pretty soon.
